Five for Friday &#8211; July 1, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A twitter follower just told me that my five for friday didn&#8217;t show up. Yes, I&#8217;ve been busy, but mostly just dumb, as I somehow managed to write this, and not post it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Better late than never.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week has &#8230;not really been any better than last week. Lots of things happening, and only some of them are good. I still found a few bits of information worth sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Something that really bugs me is stupid password rules. The only password I know is my bitwarden password, and it&#8217;s basically the opening paragraph of a novel. Anyway, some smart people at Princeton wrote a really cool paper about <a href=\"https:\/\/passwordpolicies.cs.princeton.edu\/assets\/password_policies_draft-latest.pdf\">stupid websites and stupid password rules<\/a>.<\/li><li>I probably linked to Github Copilot when it was first announced (and I&#8217;m too lazy to look right now). But apparently, <a href=\"https:\/\/matthewbutterick.com\/chron\/this-copilot-is-stupid-and-wants-to-kill-me.html\">This Copilot is Stupid and Wants to Kill Me<\/a>.<\/li><li>I&#8217;m reading, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/58724926-when-they-win-you-win\">When They Win, You Win<\/a> by Russ Laraway. Oh boy is it a good book for managers to read. It&#8217;s full of data, anecdotes, and practical things managers can do to keep employees happy and engaged. <\/li><li>In my ongoing series of posts about burnout, I present <a href=\"https:\/\/devinterrupted.substack.com\/p\/the-best-solution-to-burnout-weve\">The Best Solution to Burnout We\u2019ve Ever Heard | A Conversation With Slack, Netlify &amp; Ambassador Labs<\/a> (note &#8211; it&#8217;s a podcast, but the TL;DL is that burnout decreases when you actually ship things frequently. Burnout is caused by crap like toil, rework and spending too much mental energy on bottlenecks. I&#8217;ll say it here &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moderntesting.org\">Modern Testing <\/a>is the antidote to burnout \ud83d\ude42<\/li><li>I found out about this today from Noah Sussman. Apparently, Minnesota republicans can&#8217;t read, and accidentally approved a <a href=\"https:\/\/melmagazine.com\/en-us\/story\/minnesota-mistakenly-legalizes-edibles\">bill legalizing hemp-based THC edibles and beverages<\/a>. It&#8217;s good for Minnesota, but yet another embarrassing story about dumb politicians in America. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope something here is interesting for you.
