First there was DefCon &#8211; then there was the covid I caught at Defcon, and now I&#8217;m back to the world of the living and managed to be awake enough this week to find a few cool things worth sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I&#8217;m a big fan of John Cutler&#8217;s writing &#8211; I thought <a href=\"https:\/\/cutlefish.substack.com\/p\/tbm-237-incompetence\">this week&#8217;s post<\/a> of his is worth pondering. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I liked this article where the author wonders if <a href=\"https:\/\/levelup.gitconnected.com\/my-solution-to-the-dev-skills-crisis-much-smaller-teams-a995c32e8707\">small teams are better<\/a>. It&#8217;s a look at the opposite side of the mythical man month (whether intended or not), but makes a lot of great points.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mako pointed me to this article on <a href=\"https:\/\/til.simonwillison.net\/llms\/training-nanogpt-on-my-blog\">training nanoGPT on blog content<\/a>. I tweaked it and ran it on my substack content (with only 40 blog posts), and found the whole thing pretty interesting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It&#8217;s a day that ends in a &#8216;Y&#8217;, which means I ran across someone on the internet whining about chat GPT, yet taking zero interest in attempting to understand how LLMs work. On the other hand &#8211; this article on using <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2023\/08\/using-chatgpt-to-make-better-decisions\">Chat GPT to make decisions<\/a>, is, in my opinion, spot on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>My covid fever had me in search of mindless movies to watch. After both enjoying and hating Cocaine Bear, I was amused to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/iraq-dubai-escaped-bear-airplane-cargo-airport-0c58ebbac661e51fa6fed40b4db3e994\">see this story, which can only really lead to a Bears On a Plane movie.<\/a> If we&#8217;re lucky.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is usually where I say, see you next week &#8211; which I think I can say, but you never know.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh hey &#8211; I&#8217;m back.
