Which I\u2019m exploring because of my worry that so many of the discussions in test haven\u2019t changed in the last ten years. <\/p>\n<p>I better try to come up with a better explanation before everyone thinks I\u2019m crazy.<\/p>\n<p>A few weeks ago, I expressed my concern about the <a href=\"http:\/\/angryweasel.com\/blog\/?p=239\">lack of forward thinking in software testing<\/a>. I wondered (and still wonder) where the new ideas are going to come from. The \u201chot topics\u201d in test haven\u2019t changed that much in the last ten+ years, and I wonder if they\u2019ll change in the <em>next <\/em>ten years.<\/p>\n<p>One possible reason for this is that not that many people <em>stay <\/em>in test long enough to get to a point where they have both the experience and influence to advance the state of the art. Now, I don\u2019t think everyone with some arbitrary amount of experience in test is automatically going to be a forward thinker and come up with great new ideas and approaches \u2013 and that\u2019s also why I think we need more people with extensive experience in test.<\/p>\n<p>And with that thought, I started thinking about careers in test, because without a good idea of what a career in test looks like, people may not stay in test.<\/p>\n<p>And that got me thinking about what <em>I <\/em>do, and what other testers do -&#160; and whether or not how we describe ourselves can make us a good (or bad\u2026or neutral) role model for a career in test.<\/p>\n<p>And, for better or for worse, that\u2019s kind of the way I think about things. I keep recognizing more parts of the system and then I ponder how they work together, until eventually I come up with something.<\/p>\n<p>Or not.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway \u2013 I hope that puts a little more clarity on my recent rambles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You probably couldn\u2019t tell, but my last post was part of my exploration into careers in test.
