Five for Friday – September 2, 2022
We made it to September. I’ve been going to the office a bit more, doing a small bit of traveling, and hoping the world can get to a better state. Here are some interesting articles I found this week.
- Some offices are back at work at almost pre-pandemic levels – while others are still ghost towns. I came across this article (mostly a collection of anecdotes) on Why Many Leaders Believe Getting Employees Back In the Office Is Now or Never that captures a lot of what I’ve heard and expect.
- This is a really well written post on how we solve problems – What problem are you trying to solve?
- There’s been a bit of a buzz recently around “quiet quitting” – and HBR has a great article this week showing that bad management plays a huge part in the buzz.
- Imposing standards is tough – and honestly, the wrong way to drive alignment in most situations. This article on cross-pollination over imposed standards from Jason Yip is full of great ideas and advice.
- I’ve always been a huge fan of Ronny Kohavi’s work in online experiments, and I’m finally getting around to reading his wonderful (so far) book – Trustworthy Online Controlled Experiments: A Practical Guide to A/B Testing. It’s easy to read, and full of fun informatin.
