Fog Creek Fun

Whaaa…? Two posts on automation in one week?

Normally, I’d refrain, but for those who missed it on twitter, I recorded an interview with Fog Creek last week on the Abuse and Misuse of Test Automation. It’s short and sweet (and that includes my umms and awws).

When I was 9 years old, I’d play pick up soccer at recess. A couple of kids – the “leaders” would pick teams, and then we’d play. Since we were kids, the leaders of the teams were sometimes the best players, but usually the loudest kids. Leadership was short-lived, but effective for the purpose. I…

  • Wrote About Testing

I think it’s been a long time since I took more than a week between posts. I was busy at WAT2, and then busy catching up from being busy at WAT2. I’ve had a busy travel schedule this year (a plane trip every month so far this year), and although Durango is closer to home…

  • More on the Coding Tester

Every day, it seems, I come across an article, a forum posting, a blog, or a tweet bemoaning the end-of-test-as-we-know-it because some company has hired / is hiring people with programming knowledge to become testers. I’ve written about coding-testers (here, and in other posts) before (as have many others that I’m too lazy to look…

Today I saw yet another info-byte on the perils of multi-tasking. 1. Alan,
I just watched/listened to “The Abuse and Misuse of Test Automation” and have to say BRAVO! Straightforward and honest about the whole affair. I’m going to “make” my colleagues and management watch/listen to this. You hit on a lot of things in relation to what I call the “Automagic” problem with Test Automation work. If I ever run into you at a conference I’ll be buying you a beer (or two or more).

Thanks for the honesty, it is what is needed in this line of work.

    Regards,

    Jim Hazen

P.S. Go to YouTube and look for “Management wants Test Automation Now!” (https://youtu.be/pNeDFJp_xwU), you’ll get a good laugh.
