Fog Creek Fun

Whaaa…? Two posts on automation in one week?

Normally, I’d refrain, but for those who missed it on twitter, I recorded an interview with Fog Creek last week on the Abuse and Misuse of Test Automation. It’s short and sweet (and that includes my umms and awws).

It’s been six years since James Whittaker proclaimed that test was dead (and many people still haven’t figured out what he really meant), and since then testing has continued to change dramatically.   For some of us.   But not for others.   Earlier this week, I linked to an article titled “Stop Hiring Testers”. 1. Alan,
I just watched/listened to “The Abuse and Misuse of Test Automation” and have to say BRAVO! Straightforward and honest about the whole affair. I’m going to “make” my colleagues and management watch/listen to this. You hit on a lot of things in relation to what I call the “Automagic” problem with Test Automation work. If I ever run into you at a conference I’ll be buying you a beer (or two or more).

Thanks for the honesty, it is what is needed in this line of work.

    Regards,

    Jim Hazen

P.S. Go to YouTube and look for “Management wants Test Automation Now!” (https://youtu.be/pNeDFJp_xwU), you’ll get a good laugh.
