Fog Creek Fun

Whaaa…? Two posts on automation in one week?

Normally, I’d refrain, but for those who missed it on twitter, I recorded an interview with Fog Creek last week on the Abuse and Misuse of Test Automation. It’s short and sweet (and that includes my umms and awws).

After my last post, I thought I was done commenting on stack ranking (for at least another year), but two things inspired me to write just a bit more. First, a few people flat-out asked about my opinions for alternatives; and secondly, a consultant added some ignorance to the discussion that gave me just enough…

  • Three Surprises

I’m two months into my 18th year at Microsoft, and I still really enjoy it – most of the time at least. My job is great, I work on amazing technology, and with people smarter than you can imagine. But, for two months or so every year, the dreaded MS review monster comes out from…

  1. Alan,
I just watched/listened to “The Abuse and Misuse of Test Automation” and have to say BRAVO! Straightforward and honest about the whole affair. I’m going to “make” my colleagues and management watch/listen to this. You hit on a lot of things in relation to what I call the “Automagic” problem with Test Automation work. If I ever run into you at a conference I’ll be buying you a beer (or two or more).

Thanks for the honesty, it is what is needed in this line of work.

    Regards,

    Jim Hazen

P.S. Go to YouTube and look for “Management wants Test Automation Now!” (https://youtu.be/pNeDFJp_xwU), you’ll get a good laugh.
