Five for Friday – April 16, 2021

Back for another week of random stuff I found on the internet.

  • The State of Testing Report is out – lots of interesting insights and info.
  • Maaret Pyhäjärvi has a short, but nice blog on learning from failure that’s worth reading
  • Not sure who else is using Sourcgraph (or why I haven’t heard of it before), but it’s what org wide code search should look like.
  • Great article from HBR on What Does It Mean to Be a Manager Today.
  • We’re doing a little security ctf (capture the flags) competition at work, and it reminded me that just about everyone in software should try at least a few of these. The CTF 101 site is a great place to start.

For a lot of people, the concept of making software with a single team falls into the…

Ministry of Test called out my talk at TestBash in their Top Ten list of TestBash talks 2018 But something even cooler from Ministry of Test is that they’ve crowdsourced their conference abstract reviews. I’ve already reviewed a few dozen, and think it’s a fantastic idea…

This post is completely inspired by Trish Khoo’s post on Preparing for Your Presentation. I was going to add a comment, but it got too long, so it’s becoming a blog post. Go ahead and read that first – it covers way more than I’m covering here, and it’s a well written article. Trish suggests…

It’s the American Thanksgiving version of FfF – here are a few interesting things I want to share this week. A colleague shared this interesting article on The Epistemology of Software Quality and I’m sharing it forward. I’ve never liked shift-* testing terms – but I’m warm to the idea of omni-testing If you or…
